The Eastbourne Dynamos Team

Beulah Baptists were the latest visitors to Old Town Rec this week. The last time these two teams met, Dynamos came from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 in the last 10 minutes.

Manager Gary Taylor pulled a few surprises out of the hat in his team selection with Dynamos now secure in avoiding relegation. Mark Likeman started his first game on the bench, having missed only 7 minutes all season. The inclusion of Lloyd Taylor surprised everyone as he made the starting eleven after missing the last five games through a hamstring injury.

Dynamos had most of the early possession but didn't test the keeper. Christian Courtier and Lloyd Taylor both had attempts from outside the area go over the bar.

Eastbourne's defence were playing well and not giving the visitors a sniff of goal. But Beulah did take the lead against the run of play when Dynamos failed to clear the ball when Beulah lost possession, but the striker managed to rifle in a shot from just inside the area before a blue shirt could get near him. Martin Bell was left with very little chance of stopping the shot.

Dynamos continued to press for their first goal of the game, but they didn't really have any clear cut chances as Beulah seemed happy to contest the high balls and Eastbourne ran out of ideas and humped the ball forward far too often.

The hosts did manage to find a way back into the game as Lloyd Taylor contested a high ball but was beaten to it by a defender who seemed to knock it back to the keeper who picked it up. The referee awarded a free kick for a back pass. Neil Taylor touched the ball to Courtier whose shot went above the mass of bodies on the goal line and into the roof of the net draw the teams level.

The second half as another close affair, with Beulah seeing more possession than the first half and going close on a few occasion's. Martin Bell always looked confident and James Dale was putting in some great challenges to halt Beulah's big front man, with Stephen Fletcher sweeping up everything else. Dayle Courtier and Glenn Taylor were both working well down the wings and trying to get forward at every opportunity.

Beulah went close when their striker ran clear of the Eastbourne defence, but as he knocked the ball around the keeper, there was too much behind it and Fletcher cleared the lose ball. A second chance saw the striker try to help a high ball over Bell and into the net, but the ball went inches over the bar.

Christian Courtier will then feel he should have scored when Jeff Ferguson sent over a brilliant corner in which Courtier was unmarked at the back post but put his header wide.

Dynamos had a couple of half chances to take the lead, but nothing clear-cut. Mark Likeman, on for Lloyd Taylor, was then denied a penalty when it looked like he was being wrestled off the ball in the area, but the referee waved play on.

Eastbourne won the game with about five minutes to go when Dean Pugh broke from the middle of the pitch after collecting Fletcher's pass, when he reached the area he passed to Likeman who slotted the ball into the far corner from the left.

The game finished with Dynamos securing another win, and with one more game to go they aim to finish their season on a high.
