Eastbourne Dynamos played their last game of the season against Battle Baptists this weekend. Dynamos were missing three of their regular players, all three of which started the last game against Beulah Baptists, meaning manager Gary Taylor only had 11 players to pick from. The game was played out in hot conditions on a rock hard surface at Old Town Rec. Both teams took a while to settle and get to grips with the conditions as the game began as a scrappy affair. Chances were scarce and both teams were guilty of giving the ball away too much. Battle took the lead after winning a free kick from the left inside the Eastbourne half. The ball was clipped in at the near post, and as Martin Bell jumped to claim the ball, he was barged off the ball by the Battle player, the ball became loose and the Battle player got to the ball first whose header hit the post before falling at the feet of another Battle player at the back post who shot past the one defender standing on the goal line. Dynamos protested to the referee that the keeper was fouled which he claimed he didn't see. Dynamos increased their tempo and created the better of the chances towards the end of the second half, but failed to make any count. The second half proved a one sided affair with the game played out in the Battle half, with the occasional counter attack forward by Battle when Dynamos lost possession, but Martin Bell was never called into action. Dynamos became frustrated at failing to find the goal they felt they deserved, and also failing to make the Battle keeper work more than he did. The inconsistent referee increased Dynamos frustration. Tempers came to a boil when Lloyd Taylor collected a pass from Likeman, but saw his shot go wide and walked off the pitch and headed for the changing rooms. He collected a yellow card for leaving the pitch without the referee's permission. Eastbourne ran out of time and couldn't find the goal that would have prevented defeat. Dynamos did manage to avoid getting relegated in their first season and finished more than just above the relegation zone in the end, which should be seen as a success. Eastbourne now look forward to next season and build on what they have already achieved. Despite what Battle Baptists website say's about us, we will be back next season and hopefully stronger, but then it wouldn't be the first time something said on Battle's website offended another team. |
