Eastbourne Dynamos returned to action this week in the Eastbourne Junior Cup away to Winkney Seniors. Manager Gary Taylor had some selection problems with several key players missing either though injury or had tickets for the England game.

It was the visitors who started off the better, when they opened brightly and pressed forward when they could. Dynamos forced a few chances, but nothing that really tested the home keeper.

But before long, Eastbourne found themselves in front when Dean Pugh picked up the ball a few yards inside the Winkney half, turned his marker and before running towards goal. With space in front of him, he had chance to place the ball in the far right hand corner.

Dynamos pressed for a second to put some distance between the teams. Eastbourne came close when Jamie Drummond had an effort bounce off the bar, after which Winkney were able to clear their lines.

Dynamos didn't have it all their own, Winkney cut through the new look centre defence several times on the break, using the ball over the top to great effect, but Dynamos managed to make the tackles to halt the attacks, with keeper Martin Bell clearing up the loose balls.

Dynamos had a few more chances to increase their lead, but failed to take them. Darren Vine had a header go just wide, following an Eastbourne corner.

The second half continued to be more of a midfield battle. Eastbourne tried to attack at every opportunity, but gave the ball away far too much at times and never seemed to be first to the ball at times.

Eastbourne doubled their lead about 15 minutes into the second half, Drummond picked up a through ball and his snap shot took a deflection that helped it round the keeper and into the net.

Mark Likeman nearly scored following a goalmouth scramble, but his effort just outside the six-yard box was blocked by one of his own players.

Winkney got back into the game when a mix in the Dynamos defence and keeper lead to three players running into each other, with the Winkney player first to the loose ball, and although the Dynamos players and keeper Martin Bell where back to the feet, the striker managed to find the far corner to make the score 2-1.

A few minutes later and Eastbourne had a third and restored their two-goal advantage. Pugh was fouled midway into the Winkney half, his quickly taken free kick found Dale Courtier down the line, his low cross was diverted goal wards by Neil Taylor, and was already over the line before Jose Rodrigues made sure.

Just as time was nearly up, Dynamos signed off with a fourth, Pugh who headed in his second of the game met Neil Taylor's well-taken corner at the near post.

Eastbourne didn't play well, but still find themselves in the next round of the cup. They will need to up their game when they visit Magham Down in the other Eastbourne cup.
