Match Report

Eastbourne Dynamos had the short trip to Magham Down this weekend for the start of the Eastbourne Challenge Cup campaign. Manager Gary Taylor had a big pool of players to pick from this weekend, and chose to stick with roughly the same team that won last week. The only changes being Dayle Courtier coming in for the injured Lloyd Taylor, and Stephen Fletcher coming in for Glenn Taylor, who was one of the three subs.

Dynamos started the game at break neck speed and where winning every loose ball and attacked at speed. Magham Down where unsettled and soon found themselves 1-0 down.

Eastbourne's midfield won the ball just outside the area and found Jamie Drummond on the left, his low cross went across the six-yard box and was met by Neil Taylor at the back post who diverted the ball past the keeper.

Eastbourne continued to play at this speed and could have found themselves further ahead, but failed to really test the keeper.

Magham Down slowed edged their way into the game and began to force Dynamos back. They had a few chances to draw level by being the first to react to loose balls in the area, but Dynamos survived for now.

The home side found themselves level following a clumsy challenge from Dean Pugh in the area and the referee awarded a penalty. The Magham striker stepped up and sent Martin Bell the wrong way to score.

Magham then had a goal ruled out for offside, although for a while it looked like the referee was going to ignore the flag from the linesman and award the goal.

Magham managed to take the lead just before half time when they caught Dynamos on the break. Dynamos claims for handball in the build up to the goal were waved away by the referee and the Magham player headed the cross from the right into the back of the net.

Dynamos attempted to start the second half the way they started the first, although this time is was the home side who got the goal. Another break from Magham ended with them breaking down the left and putting the ball past Bell and into the far corner.

The visitors continued to have the majority of possession, but failed to make it count and the home keeper wasn't really forced into any meaningful saves.

It wasn't long before Magham found them selves further ahead. They worked their way down the right and before managing to get clear of the Dynamos defence before placing the ball in the bottom left hand corner.

Dynamos were now heading out of the cup at the first hurdle, but continued to hold more possession, but failed to turn it into chances and goals. Magham then put the game beyond any doubt with a fifth. The striker managed to find space in the Eastbourne area again, a fired into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

Eastbourne did find a consolation goal, but it was too little, too late. Pugh reacted to a Dynamos shot, which was palmed out by the keeper, and Pugh stuck away the loose ball.

There are a few positives to take out of this game. Eastbourne had the ball for long periods of time and played a lot better than the previous week. But they need to convert this possession into attempt on goal against the bigger teams.
