Eastbourne Dynamos faced their first game without a manager when JC Tackleway were the visitors for this League Cup second round game. The club's committee had put Glenn Taylor in temporary charge, and he was lucky enough to have 14 players in his squad.

The game started at a frantic pass, and although there were calls from the Dynamos management to put a foot on the ball and slow the pace down, this never looked like happening.

The open 15 minutes was end-to-end stuff, with Dynamos enjoying a lot of it in the visitors half. Neil Taylor went close when he tried to chip the keeper, but his effort floated just over the bar.

Tackleway also had their chances, and a couple of times the ball over the top caught out the Dynamos defence, and their striker raced forward but found Martin Bell in inspired form who made two or three good saves when one on one.

Dynamos were forced to make two early substitutions when both centre midfielders suffered ankle injuries and could not continue.

Neil Taylor then gave the home side something to smile about when he put them ahead. Stephen Fletcher won the ball before finding Dean Pugh on the left, his diagonal ball into the area found Neil Taylor who flicked the ball over defender and keeper before dipping under the bar and into the net.

The second half opened with Tackleway enjoying a lot more of the ball. They had a period of sustained pressure but desperate and last ditch defending for Eastbourne kept them out. In the midst of this, Jose Rodrigues picked up a yellow card for a nasty tackle from behind on the Tackleway midfielder, but Dynamos managed to clear the danger from the resulting free kick.

Eastbourne soon started to pick up the pace of the game and then found the goal that gave them a bit of breathing space. Mark Likeman took a free kick from just inside the Dynamos half, Dean Pugh controlled the ball before flicking it over the defender to Jamie Drummond in the area. Drummond's neat control on the thigh set him up brilliantly for the volley, which he lashed into the far corner.

Pugh was again involved in Dynamos scoring a third. Substitue Austin Ward bravely took a ball to the face (he didn't really have a choice), the ball fell a Tackleway defender, but he couldn't control and Pugh took it from him before racing clear. With the keeper rushing out to close the angle, Pugh squared the ball to Drummond to tap in for his second goal.

Dynamos nearly scored again, they had the bit between their teeth and were looking to score more. Likeman won the ball down the right before powering forward past the defender. His low cross into the box was hit first time by Taylor, but was disappointed to see it go over the bar.

The home side did eventually score a fourth, when Simon Burke won the ball down the left, and his clearance down the line found Drummond. He managed to see off the attentions from the defender, his cool finish into the near corner secured his second hat trick for the club, and helps see Dynamos through to the Quarter Finals.

Temporary manager Glenn Taylor will have been pleased with this result, and pleased with the effort his players put in. But it will be a harder test next week when they face Division 1 side Athletico in the Eastbourne Junior Cup.
