Eastbourne Dynamos returned to League action this week when Beulah Baptists where the visitors to Old Town Rec. Temporary manager Glenn Taylor had pretty much the same team to pick from as last week.
A scrappy opening was mixed with a lacklustre opening few minutes from Dynamos point of view. The game was end-to-end stuff both defences held tight and made sure their keepers remained well protected.
Chances where few and far between in the first half and looked like it may remain goalless until half time, but Dynamos found a breakthrough. Austin Ward's attempted overhead kick was blocked, but the loose ball was fired goal wards by Jose Rodrigues and his low strike crept just inside the post before the diving keeper to get to it.
Both sides had half chances to add to the score line before the visitors conjured up an equaliser just before half time. The Beulah No 9 waltz between two Dynamos defenders, before squaring for his Team Mate to score with a calm finish.
The second half opened up a bit more, and Dynamos had a few chances to take the lead once again. Eastbourne did manage to take the lead again when Mark Likeman got to the high ball in the area before the keeper, and Dean Pugh managed to thread the loose ball through the defenders on the line.
The Eastbourne lead lasted all of two minutes. Beulah went straight on the attack, but the cross was blocked by Austin Ward as the ball hit him from point blank range. It wasn't until Dynamos had cleared the ball past the half way line that the referee pulled the game back and awarded the visitors a penalty for hand ball.
The Beulah striker neatly tucked away the penalty into the top left hand corner giving Eastbourne keeper Martin Bell no chance.
With 15 minutes to go, Neil Taylor put Eastbourne back in the lead for a third time. He controlled a ball into the box well on his chest before knocking the ball over the defenders head and then volleying home with a brilliant finish.
Dynamos knew they needed to concentrate and make sure they did not through this game away. But Eastbourne cracked again, but the big Beulah striker managed to avoid a couple of challenges running across the Dynamos area before getting his shot away, Bell managed to get a foot to the ball which took the sting out of it, but it continued to roll goal wards and managed to creep over the line just as two Dynamos defenders came charging back to clear.
Dynamos could have won the game in the final few minutes. They counter attacked at pace, they lost the ball but Jamie Drummond and Neil Taylor pressed the Baptist defender in his own area, he managed to clear the ball but it landed at the feet of Dean Pugh just on the edge of the area, whose first time effort shook the foot of the post, Pugh did manage to retrieve the rebound, but was tackled before he could get the ball out of his feet.
Dynamos had to settle for the draw, which they will be disappointed with after taking the lead three times. Eastbourne must now concentrate on next week's fixture.
