Eastbourne Dynamos faced the long trip to Hawkhurst to face a United side sitting third in the table. Dynamos depleted side suffered another set back when Stephen Fletcher withdrew from the squad due to illness.
Dynamos had a bare 11 making the trip, which was now looking even tougher. A scrappy opening few minutes saw both teams giving away possession on a surprisingly nice surface considering the recent weather.
Eastbourne were then given some luck as Hawkhurst had a player sent off for a two footed challenge on David Moran, who looked in some pain and never really recovered.
Neil Taylor then put the visitors in the lead from the spot after winning a penalty, after he skilfully managed to hold the ball from at least three players.
Dynamos were forced to attack on the break and were pushed further and further back as the game wore on, although Martin Bell was only tested on a couple of occasions thanks to some good defending by the back four of Ben Curwood, Mark Likeman, Jamie Drummond and Simon Burke, and that included a brilliant save from a free kick.
Dynamos managed to get to the end of the half still in the lead. Jose Rodrigues and David Moran were both carrying injuries and would have gone off if Dynamos had any subs, but both battled on.
Hawkhurst continued to press forward and the game became stretched as Dynamos tried to keep the ball away from their goal, but never really held onto it for long.
Against the run of play, and for once the linesman didn't flag Dynamos offside, Dean Pugh found Lloyd Taylor on the left, and his square pass found Jose Rodrigues who managed to fire across goal and into the back of the net to put Dynamos two up.
This seems to spark a fight back from Hawkhurst, but for the moment Dynamos were holding strong. Martin Bell made a brilliant save when one on one when it looked like United were going to score.
Hawkhurst closed the gap when their corner didn't beat the first defender, but a second attempt put the ball right in the danger zone and the United player jumped unopposed to head the ball in.
With a quarter of the game left, Dynamos were hanging on. Some Dynamos players were becoming increasingly frustrated at some of the decisions not going their way. The home side levelled shortly after when their midielder got behind the defence on the left, before cutting back for his teammate to slot past the defenders on the line.
Dynamos where now just hanging on, they were trying to keep the ball up the other end of the field but it was just coming straight back. The visitors were playing with virtually 9 men due to injuries, and tiredness was visible on some players.
The hosts took the lead with about 10 minutes left, they attacked down the left and after getting the rub of the green, managed to fire goalwards, but another striker fired the ball over the line to make sure, but Dynamos claimed that player was in an offside position, meaning the goal shouldn't have counted, but the referee waved away Dynamos protests and awarded the goal.
Dynamos had one last through of the dice in the final few minutes, but couldn't get a meaningful shot on goal to test the keeper and in the end, time ran out and Dynamos went home disappointed. Things are not looking good for Dynamos at the moment with a long list of injured players, no manager and some players not showing the right attitude some of the teammates expect.
