Match Report

Eastbourne Dynamos had the short trip to Whitley Road for this derby against Eastbourne Fishermens. Just as the game was about to get under way, the rain started on a pitch that didn't need any more rain.

Dynamos began the brightest keeping the ball well and going straight for goal. The visitors needed to get some width to their game as there was acres of space down the wings. Chris Fletcher, making his debut, showed some good touches in the middle of the park and was keen to get stuck in.

For all Dynamos possession, they never really tested the keeper. He was forced into two comfortable saves, while the home team where kept at bay for the most part, they did counter attack at pace when given the chance, and Martin Bell had to be alert on a couple of occasions to clear the danger.

Dynamos new look defence played well, keeping a high line up the pitch, which helped keep the ball penned in the Fishermen's half for long periods.

The only set back was the striker Jamie Drummond had to be replaced midway through the first half due to injury.

The second half was much of the same, with both teams coping really well with the poor conditions, and the referee let the game flow as much as he could.

Dynamos had a series of free kicks and corners, but again, failed to make anything of them. As the game wore on, it looked increasingly likely that it was going to end in a stalemate. Although it took a great save from Martin Bell to keep the scores level.

With 15 minutes to go, Fishermen's managed to find the breakthrough. Their tall forward managed to rise highest and header the ball down from a corner, and the ball managed to fall to the feet of an unmarked player at the back post, who managed to navigate the ball through a crowd of players to find the back of the net.

Dynamos went straight on the attack, feeling that they should be winning this game, not losing. They had a few half chances that could have equalised, but with 5 minutes remaining, N Taylor won a corner, which he took, and Jose Rodrigues managed to header in his third goal in as many games.

Dynamos did look for a late winner, but time ran out and both teams will be happy with a point because of the terrible conditions.
