Match Report

Eastbourne Dynamos game against Eastbourne Fishermens survived the recent weather. Dynamos were playing in their first game of 2008, and for once, had a full team of players to pick from.

Christian Courtier returned to the starting line-up for the first time since the beginning of November, Stephen Fletcher also returned from injury that forced him to miss Dynamos last two game. Ben Curwood kept his place in the team after his recent good performances.

Dynamos got of to a very good start, looking sharp and seemed to have taken on manager Glenn Taylor's pre-match team talk. Dynamos kept the ball well and penned the visitors into their own half for long periods of time.

The hosts tested the keeper on a few occasions, but nothing that had him worried. Dynamos battled and defended well. Dynamos midfield seemed to have closed the gap between defence and attack that has been evident in recent games.

Martin Bell must have been happy that it wasn't a bitterly cold evening as he was a spectator for most of the half.

Both Dayle Courtier and Mark Likeman had chances for Dynamos before Jamie Drummond latched onto Mark Likemans pass and then riffled in a blistering shot from the right side of the area to put the home side ahead. Drummond was clearly pleased to have ended his recent goal-scoring drought.

Dynamos grew in confidence and built on their good possession. Some fine work by Ben Curwood down the left kept the home side on the attack and pushed them forward. He found Christian Courtier whose cross to the back post was helped on by the defender, found Dayle Coutier to direct the ball goal wards for his first goal for Dynamos.

The second half saw Fishermens get more of the game and the early periods saw Dynamos defending deeper than the first half. With some last ditch defending, the home side managed to weather the storm and were soon looking to increase their lead again.

Dynamos had a few half chances that either was off target, or the keeper claimed with relative ease. Drummond had a chance to add to his tally, but on his weaker foot he saw the keeper save.

Neil Taylor then increase Eastbourne's lead when he latched onto Dean Pugh's through ball before lifting the ball over the oncoming keeper and into the net for his twelfth goal of the season.

As the game wore on, Dynamos had more and more chances to increase their lead as the game become stretched. The hosts also had the opportunity to change things around a bit and use their subs.

Dynamos didn't manage to add to the score line, but will be happy with one of their best performances of the season. Eastbourne played as a team, cut out the long ball, worked hard for each other and didn't argue with the ref or each other. This performance was a million miles away from the last one given against Red Lion. Let's hope this continues and we build on this, taking it into the next game.
