Eastbourne Dynamos had top of the league Robertsbridge visit the Rec this weekend. Dynamos had a couple of players missing, but were still able to field a very strong team. The first 20 minutes belonged to the home side as they claimed more possession and played some neat passing football at time. They had a few half chances to take the lead but failed to test a very nervous looking keeper who fumbled anything that went near him. Lloyd Taylor had the best chance when Eastbourne good football down the left ended with a cross which found Taylor at the back post, but his powerful shot was just off target and it sailed over the bar. Robertsbridge started to cope a bit better as time went on, and forced Eastbourne keeper Martin Bell into one very good save, but other than that, the Dynamos defence looked solid and composed and kept the visitors to a minimum. The Second half saw Dynamos playing into the wind, but still had the better of the chances. Neil Taylor had the best chance of the half when he managed to race onto a through ball, his chip over the oncoming keeper looked set for goal, but it seemed to curve off at the last minute and ended in a goal kick. Dynamos were wasteful with some of the chances when they should at least be hitting the target. The game looked to be heading for a draw but inside the last 10 minutes, a cross from the right was headed in at the near post even though Bell managed to get a hand to the ball. The linesman's flag was up for offside, claiming that both players were in an offside position. After the referee consulted the linesman, he decided to allow the goal anyway despite the protests from the Home players. Dynamos pushed for the remaining few minutes, and pinned the visitors into the own half for the rest of the game. Some last ditch defended helped them clear their lines but Dynamos came back at them. The home side couldn't find a way through all the bodies and Robertsbridge held on for all three points. Eastbourne will feel unlucky to have come away from this game with nothing, feeling they had played the better football and looked the better team, but goals are what matter and Dynamos need that cutting edge if they are to beat the top teams. |
