Match Report

Dynamos saved their longest trip till last for the final game of the season over at Wadhurst.

The hosts have been in good form recently which was bad news for an Eastbourne team struggling with injuries and dedicated players. Eastbourne had 11 names on the sheet, but that included manager Glenn Taylor who had only recently recovered from knee surgery, so he remained on the bench unless he was really needed.

Dynamos were under the cosh early on playing uphill with only 10 players. Dynamos fell behind after looking solid at the back despite Wadhurst's constant pressure. The Wadhurst player broke through the Dynamos defence before slotting past Martin Bell.

Dynamos then suffered a major blow when only 5 minutes into the game they lost their defender and captain, Austin Ward, after he went in for a challenge and came out of hit clutching his knee. He was in too much pain to continue and was helped from the field. He was taken to hospital where it was confirmed that he had done ligament damage to his knee.

Glenn Taylor was forced to take to the field to increase Dynamos numbers back to 10, but he was nowhere near fit and still recovering from his operation.

The home side doubled their lead with a goal similar to the first. Dynamos then started to make life even harder for themselves after givening the ball away straight from the restart before the Wadhurst player squared for his team mate to divert past Bell.

Dynamos went through a period where they seemed to have settled. They didn't have much possession but they looked a little more confident in defence.

With 15 minutes remaining of the half, Wadhurst got a fourth when Dynamos failed to clear their line.

The second half saw Dynamos start off a little brighter, looking to use the advantage of shooting downhill to maybe get on the score sheet, but after enjoying a period of a little more possession, Wadhurst scored with their first attack of second half after attacking down the right.

Dynamos day got even worse when Mark Likeman landed awkwardly and was forced to join Austin Ward in hospital also with a knee injury. Dynamos had been reduced to 9 men, but included one player who shouldn't really be playing and another player picked up an injury and was also struggling.

Dynamos battled on but numbers played a big factor and it was just a case of how many Dynamos could prevent. Some brilliant saves by Martin Bell and some good defending by Stephen Fletcher and the remaining players kept Wadhurst out on numerous occasions.

Wadhurst eventually managed to score 9 goals past Dynamos without reply although Dynamos did have a few attempts on target but failed to really test their keeper. If Eastbourne had 11 players for the duration on this game, then the scoreline would have undoubtedly have kept the scoreline down and made more of a game of it. It was evident after the game that the remaining players had felt let down by some of their team mates who left them playing with 10 men for the start of this game. Some players where understandably absent, but others find it too easy to make up an excuse when they have something better to do. Hopefully next season doing this will see them fall down the pecking order because we have other dedicated players waiting to take their place and a manager that will not accept poor excuses for missing training or matches. Players seem to think that Gary Taylor leaving half way through the season means that it's not as important to turn up for training.
