Match Report

Eastbourne Dynamos started their East Sussex League season playing away to Beulah Baptists on a ridiculously windy day. Luckily the rain held off for the duration of the game.

Dynamos had a few players making their competitive debut for the club, and Eastbourne took a few minutes to settle and find their feet, but after that they kept the ball on the ground following the instructions from manager Steve Newson. Both teams did threatened to open up each other, but failed to make any clear-cut chances.

15 minutes into the game and Beulah took the upper hand after capitalising on a mistake by the Dynamos defence, their winger snatched the ball before heading straight for the Dynamos area and then finding the back of the net with only the keeper to beat.

Beulah took the upper hand in the game after this and they grew in confidence. The hosts used the wind to their advantage well, and started to put pressure on the Dynamos goal, but Eastbourne managed to keep Beulah to half chances, while Beulah were doing the same to Eastbourne.

As the half neared the end, the Greens were getting back into the game and starting to keep the ball better. A few balls into the box where a good sign, but they were not making the keeper work. Then the equaliser came when Neil Taylor managed to brilliantly find Jamie Drummond in the box, who gathered the ball well before advancing past the onrushing keeper and slotting home.

The second half was a more even affair, with Dynamos probably feeling they edged it. Again, clear cut chances were not to be found easily as both defences held strong, and goalkeeper Martin Bell was left to collect the loose balls and generally tidy up.

Midway through the half, the visitors took the lead, when Dean Pugh blocked a clearance before playing in Taylor, whose cross come shot was diverted in at the back post by Drummond for his and Dynamos second goal.

Eastbourne grew in confidence after this and did manage to carve out a couple of chances, even though the ref did disrupt the flow of play for both teams for questionable offences. Pugh was guilty of missing one of Dynamos best chances after racing through with only the keeper to beat, while Christian Corder-Courtier was unable to take advantage of a misunderstanding between the Beulah defence following a quickly taken free kick.

The referee seemed to play a lot of unneeded injury time, and it was to be Dynamos downfall, as they failed to hold onto the ball furthest away from their own goal, and in the end Ben Curwood conceded a penalty with virtually the last kick of the game. The hosts didn't waste their chance to grab a share of the spoils and it will be them that went home the happier of the two sides.

Eastbourne will be happy that their performance this week was a great deal better than that in their last friendly, but will be disappointed that they couldn't hold onto all three points.
