The first home game of the season for Dynamos saw Cinque Ports as the opponents in this Division 3 game. Cinque Ports were promoted after winning Division 4 last year, they were also Division 5 Champions the previous season, and also achieved promotion the season before that after finishing second.
Manager Steve Newson was able to field the same starting eleven as last week, a luxury previous managers haven't had. The team clicked instantly and were 1-0 up within the first 5 minutes. Christian Corder-Courtier found Jamie Drummond on the right of the area, who riffled in a blistering shot from just inside the area into the top left of the goal to add to his goals from last week.
Martin Bell was called into action moments later, with a brilliant one on one save to keep Dynamos in the lead. Eastbourne did have chances to go further ahead, but Dean Pugh missed when clean through on goal, while Corder-Courtier did the same from the other side of the area, with the keeper saving both.
Neil Taylor then claimed his first goal of the season with somewhat fortunate goal. Taylor's half volley from outside the area had the keeper scrambling back, but was unable to keep it out as it dipped under the bar and into the goal.
Dynamos defence held strong and looked solid through out the half, Bell was needed to make a couple of good saves as Ports looked dangerous when going forward.
Steve Newson's half-time team talk included caution as Cinque were clearly capable of getting back into this game, but Taylor effectively put an end to that when he scored Dynamos third just after the restart. Cinque were unable to clear their lines, with the high ball bouncing through two defenders before it reached Taylor in the six yard box who made sure the keeper was not getting to it.
Ports managed to enjoy a lot more of the ball after this, while Dynamos seemed to take their foot off the gas with the luxury of a three-goal lead, which could have been dangerous.
The referee was maybe a little picky on some of the free kicks he was awarding, and was maybe a little too quick to start dishing out yellow cards for fouls that could have easily been punished with a simple free kick.
Ports kept Dynamos in their half for longer periods of time that in the first, but they only managed to create a handful of clear cut chances. One of which produced another outstanding save from Bell, the other came from a wicked shot from the Ports full back, who saw his shot smack the bar before falling safely into the hands of the Eastbourne keeper.
Stephen Fletcher and Austin Ward marshalled the Eastbourne defence well throughout the game, and made sure that Bell's goal was protected as much as possible, with Glenn Taylor and Simon Burke also playing a vital roll at the full back positions.
The midfield was struggling to get a hold of the ball like they did in the first, which did contribute to some of the pressure that the defence was being put under.
Dynamos did have a couple of chances to add to their tally, but in the end Eastbourne will be happy with their 3 points and their first win of the season. The performances are gradually improving on the last, with players coming back into the squad, it can only mean good things for this club. Hopefully they can build on this momentum next week.
