White Knight where Dynamos hosts this week in the Eastbourne Cup, the only cup Eastbourne remains a contender in.
Manager Steve Newson had nearly a whole squad to pick his team from, and decided to go with consistency. But unfortunately that meant a few players had to miss out on a squad place.
Dynamos went straight at White Knight, hoping to take advantage of their apparent lack of confidence. Dynamos played the ball around well, but failed to really test the keeper.
The home side soon found their feet in the game and pinned Dynamos at back in their own half for most of the half. Dynamos were causing their own problems at times and didn't look like they wanted to fight for the ball, as the hosts clearly did and where first to a lot of the balls and were quickly onto the visitor's first touch, not letting them have time on the ball.
Dynamos didn't seem to learn that they needed to keep the ball on the deck, and were soon punished when a long throw was launched into the box and met by the Knight winger whose first time shot beat Martin Bell who just couldn't get a hand to the ball as the hosts took the lead.
The half time team talk seemed to work wonders for Eastbourne, who came out for the second half looking a completely different team, as they were sharper and looked more dangerous going forward. Dean Pugh and Lloyd Taylor switching sides seemed to cause Knight a few problems, and Pugh attacked the right back with his pace, but his shot just inside the area flew over the bar, without troubling the keeper.
Neil Taylor then showed some great skill when he managed to hold off the attentions of the massive centre defender and control a looping ball, but a great save by the keeper denied Taylor a goal. The resulting corner was cleared off the line by the defender on the back post after Stephen Fletchers header. The ball was only cleared to Glenn Taylor on the edge of the area, and his shot was charged down by the defender, who had arms raised and the referee adjudged that he handled the ball and Dynamos were awarded a penalty.
Neil Taylor stepped up to fire away what would have been his third penalty in as many games after 3 years of a so far faultless record, but Taylor's penalty flew wide of the goal. Dynamos maybe felt that this goal just wasn't going to come, while White Knight were probably thinking that they had weathered the storm and that luck was maybe on their side.
Dynamos continued to push, but other than Fletcher's shot which was palmed away, failed to really test the keeper, while the hosts always looked dangerous on the break. With about 15 minutes to go, White Knight booked their place in the next round, when their player somehow managed to wriggle through some good challenges, before the ball was cut back to the only other team-mate in the box for him to fire home. Eastbourne felt that there had been a foul throw in the build up to the goal, something that Dynamos had been penalised for only moments earlier.
Dynamos continued to push, hoping to recover a bit of pride, but time was fast running out and then with the final whistle went Dynamos last Cup hope. The Team must now regroup and concentrate on their currently very good league position.
