Eastbourne Dynamos hosted Mayfield at Old Town Rec this weekend. The two sides fought out a 1-1 draw away at Mayfield only a few weeks ago in the rain. Dynamos felt they should have won that game, so were looking for all three points this time round.

Manager Steve Newson made a few changes due to injuries and unavailability, and the team took a while to settle. Mayfield had the ball in the back of the net a couple of times in the opening minutes, but they were ruled out for offside.

Dynamos soon kicked into gear, as Dean Pugh got to the by-line before cutting back for Neil Taylor, whose shot went wide. Although Eastbourne were looking the more likely to score as the half wore on, they always looked like they could concede as they were giving the ball away in dangerous positions.

Tom Tawell, who was making his first start for the club, saw a shot from the edge of the area go just wide, and was one of Eastbourne's best chances of the half.

Mayfield then took the lead when a back pass to Martin Bell was intercepted by the Mayfield striker and with only the keeper to beat, made no mistake with his chance.

The second half saw Dynamos push forward more, and were creating more chances. But they were finding the Mayfield keeper in top form as he made some very good saves.

Neil Taylor found Jamie Drummond in the area, but his shot was saved by the fingertips of the keeper, although the ref did not see this save as he awarded a goal kick.

Pugh also ran through on goal, but his shot was also tipped wide by the keeper, and again the ref awarded a goal kick.

The Dynamos defence were looking more relaxed now than in the first half and were playing well, leaving Bell with not much work to do.

Neil Taylor then had a shot from outside the area, but with the keeper beaten, the ball didn't dip enough and hit the bar, the keeper was the first to the loose ball. That was the closes Dynamos had come to a goal the whole game, and some were probably thinking that this just wasn't going to be their day.

Then captain Glenn Taylor had to be replaced after a nasty clash with the Mayfield midfield left Taylor with suspected broken ribs whilst also clutching his elbow.

Then with 20 minutes remaining, some good play by Dynamos ended with the ball being crossed into the box, defender and keeper got in each other's way and the ball landed at Drummonds feet, his shot hit the arm of the defender blocking the goal, and the referee awarded a penalty. Neil Taylor put the ball on the spot, after he missed his last penalty, others were itching to take over penalty duties.

Taylor scored to make it 1-1, and there was a belief that they could go on and get the victory now.

The game started to become stretched as both teams pushed forward looking for a win. But neither team created any clear-cut chances and the game finished in a draw.

Dynamos will feel that with the amount of possession they had, and chances, they should have taken all three points. They missed out on the chance to go second in the table, and fall further behind leaders Cinque Ports.
