Match Report

Eastbourne Dynamos visited Hurst away for the first encounter between these two teams.

Steve Newson was able to field a pretty strong team, with only a few injury worries. But it was the home side that started off the better of the two teams, with Dynamos looking out of sorts after missing last week's game because of it being called off.

Hurst looked to use their pace up front to get behind the Eastbourne defence, and threatened the Eastbourne goal on numerous occasions, while Neil Taylor looked isolated up front for Dynamos.

There were a couple of high challenges on Dynamos that angered the visiting players and tempers did threaten to boil over. A high challenge on Alex Speirs was only penalised with a free kick, and Martin Bell had the ball kicked out of his hands only for the referee to allow play to continue.

Not long after, Hurst took the lead. Dynamos were over run in midfield and their striker had time to hit the ball into the top left hand corner, out of the reach of Bell.

Challenges continued to fly in before Hurst doubled their lead. Martin Bell was left one on one. The defence pushed up the field, but the ball went straight through the middle unchallenged and the striker chased the ball, Martin Bell came flying out of goal, and made more contact with the player than the ball. The striker stayed on his feet but had been forced wide. His effort from a tight angle was almost cleared off the line by the defence, but they couldn't get back in time.

The second half, Dynamos enjoyed more of the ball, and were challenging for the ball in the centre of the park. Although Eastbourne saw more of the ball, they failed to test the keeper enough.

Christian Corder, who was making his return from injury, had Dynamos best chance when he controlled the ball from a corner before hitting the target, but the keeper dived low to his left to save well.

Alex Speirs also had a couple of chances from outside the area, but he failed to test the keeper.

Hurst weathered the storm and eventually extended their lead, Dynamos failed to clear from a corner and the Hurst player hammered the loose ball home.

Jamie Drummond went close for Dynamos following a cross from the right, but he couldn't keep his header down.

In the end, Hurst ran out easy winners, with Eastbourne not happy with their performance. Things did improve early in the second half, but not enough. Dynamos lacked any sort of fight in the first half, or communication, or organisation. The defeat means Dynamos drop four places, from second to sixth with this defeat.
