Match Report

Hastings Rangers were Dynamos first visitors to Old Town Rec in 2009. The last time these two teams met, the game finished 1-1 with Dynamos scoring a late equaliser in awful weather.

Miles Chambis was rewarded for his dedication with his first start for the club. Dynamos were also able to include a very strong bench, which all would get they chance.

Eastbourne didn't take long to get themselves in front, some good play ended with Mark Goodwin shooting across the keeper to score.

Not long after, Dynamos doubled their lead when Neil Taylor caused problems for the Hastings defence, but eventually was outnumbered. Jamie Drummond made it difficult for the defender to clear and managed to steal the ball before firing past the keeper.

Rangers, hadn't really played that badly, and did make Eastbourne work hard. The game swung from end to end with both teams failing to really control the game.

Dynamos then moved further ahead, as Alex Speirs squared to Mark Goodwin, who then played through Dean Pugh, who shot across goal to give Eastbourne a 3-0 lead.

Goodwin notched in a second as good work by Jamie Drummond finished with a cross that was half cleared, but Goodwin riffled in a shot from just inside the area into the top right hand corner. Eastbourne were firmly in control now, but Hastings had not given up and continued their neat passing and eventually got their rewards. After a few half chances in which Martin Bell saved or Dynamos cleared, Rangers broke down the right, and their cross was meet at the near post as the striker stroked the ball home.

The home side started the second half a little lacklustre, and as Hastings looked to get back into the game with a second goal. Dynamos were having to defend deep and were forced to defend a series of corners before Alex Speirs restored the 4 goal advantage. Lewis Colegate cushioned the ball for Speirs to guide the ball into the far left hand corner for his first goal for the club.

Eastbourne were beginning to look like they were going to score with every attack, and Neil Taylor missed a glorious chance to get his first of the game when Dean Pugh got round the back of the defence before pulling the ball back for Taylor, but he had too much time on the ball which allowed the defender to get back and make a block.

Taylor didn't have to wait long for his next chance and this time he didn't disappoint. Goodwin battled away down the left before squaring the ball to Taylor who this time made sure with a good finish.

Taylor then turned provider as Dynamos broke away. Richard Payne won the ball in defence and the race away, finding Pugh on the left. Taylor picked up Pugh's pass down the wing and crossed into the box, the backtracking defender could only knock the ball into Pugh's pass who found himself with only the keeper to beat to claim his second goal of the game and put Dynamos 7-1 up.

The home side hadn't finished, and missed a couple of good chances to increase the lead before Pugh crossed from the left and Taylor volleyed the ball into the net from the back post to secure his second of the game.

Hastings continued to play football and didn't let their heads drop. Eastbourne were forced to work right till the end, and Rangers managed to score a second to restore a little pride. A shot from the right after Dynamos caused themselves problems, Martin Bell didn't make enough contact with the ball to divert it away from goal and Rangers celebrated their second goal of the game.

Eastbourne celebrated their biggest ever win, a final score of 8-2 will take a long time to beat. But Eastbourne were not at their best, and know they must improve against the better teams in the division. The midfield still seems to be a problem, as the opposition were allowed far too much of the ball in the middle of the park which put the defence under pressure. Problems which were evident against Hurst the previous week.

Eastbourne face Pebsham Sibex next week, looking to improve on this performance.
