Match Report

Eastbourne Dynamos travelled to the Bulverhythe where they haven't enjoyed much success over the last few years, only a 2-1 victory against Beulah Baptists in December 2007. The rest have been a few draws and defeats.

Hollington United were the hosts, and have won both previous encounters between the two teams.

But it was Eastbourne who started off the brighter of the two, and some neat passing set Dynamos on the attack. Eastbourne had the majority of possession, while stand-in keeper Simon Burke was rarely troubled.

Although Eastbourne's first half chances were limited, despite their possession. Neil Taylor had a shot saved by the keeper, while Dean Pugh had a chance to volley home with only the keeper to beat, but sliced his shot wide.

Jamie Drummond went closes, when his effort was curling, but not enough and went just wide of the far post. The visitors caused their own problems when they gave the ball away in silly places, and the first half was one of the most lacklustre one this season.

Dynamos were punished right at the end of the half when the hosts, who had worked hard all game. Dynamos cleared the initial ball into the area, but they failed to push up quick enough, and United got the ball back into the danger zone, while Dynamos played their players onside. The striker managed to control the ball before shooting past Burke.

Eastbourne didn't take long after the restart to get their equaliser. Dean Pugh's run down the wing, he managed to cut the ball back for Stephen Fletcher, who sidestepped the defender before firing low past the keeper.

The visitors enjoyed most of the possession again in this half, but this time looked like scoring. They had a few chances, but had to deal with a change in personnel first when Glenn Taylor was replaced by Lewis Colegate after a knee injury.

Colegate was then involved when Eastbourne took the lead, him and Mark Goodwin worked the ball well down the wing, before Colegate sent in a brilliant cross. The cross evaded Drummond and a few defenders before Taylor found the ball at his feet, and he couldn't miss.

Pugh should have really put daylight between the two teams, but after beating two defenders, he shot wide.

The home side where given the chance to draw level, and they broke down the right before squaring the ball for the winger to slot under the advancing keeper.

Richard Payne then prevented an almost certain goal. United worked the ball well down the right again, this time the ball ended up square of goal and the Hollington player had and open goal with Burke out of position, but Payne came diving in with a last ditch challenge which cleared the ball for a throw in. He also injured fellow defender Ben Curwood in the process.

The home side took the lead not long after, when they substitute, who had caused Dynamos a lot of problems since he came on, managed to get to the ball first when it looked like it was going out for a throw. He then managed to get round his marker before shooting at a tight angle, beating Burke at his near post.

Eastbourne continue to look for goals, and Fletcher came closes to bringing the teams level again, but he headed just over following a brilliant delivery for a Taylor corner. Tom Tawell also shot wide while off balance just inside the six yard box.

Dynamos had a number of half chances, some from corners, free kicks and open play, but dispite enjoying a large amount of possession in the opposition half, they could not hit the target enough and its goals that win you games.

Eastbourne slip to another defeat in Hastings, their second consecutive defeat, and Hollington can celebrate doing the league double over Dynamos.
