Match Report

Eastbourne Dynamos hosted Pebsham Sibex at Old Town Rec as Dynamos looked to get back to winning ways following the two recent defeats.

Dynamos normal pitch was being rested, and had to make do with one of the even more sloped pitches. Both teams early exchanges involved getting used to the slant, but the hosts took and early lead when Tom Tawell brilliant cross into the danger zone was left by the defenders, possibly expecting their keeper to claim the ball. But Neil Taylor took advantage and stabbed the ball home.

There wasn't many other chances for Eastbourne in the first half. A few half chances, but nothing that really tested the keeper. The better of the chances in the first half fell to Pebsham. Their first chance Pebsham worked the ball down the right, overlapping well and getting to the by-line before getting the ball into the danger zone. As keeper Martin Bell went to collect the ball but the strikers knee caught him in the head. As he lay injured, the referee allowed play to continue and the ball trickled towards the goal, only for Simon Burke to clear the ball off the line.

The second chance was when Martin Bell saved an initial shot from the left, but the loose ball fell to a Pebsham player, they shot from six yards hit the cross bar and the ball came down on the line. The visitors claimed the ball had gone over the line, but the referee was having none of it.

The second half was even less eventful than the first. Throw-in's accounted for most of play in the second half, and enough of those were foul throws that had to be retaken.

Dynamos had more chances than they had in the first, and the keeper was called into a bit of action. Dean Pugh put Taylor through, who managed to avoid the offside trap, but the keeper made a good save.

Then Mark Goodwin had two good chances, but as he made a dart for goal from the right, the keeper saved his first effort, but the ball feel back at his feet for a second chances, but the keeper parried that away to the left well.

Dynamos gave the ball away far too much in the second half, and that allowed Pebsham to counter, but failed to really test Martin Bell.

Pugh had a great chance to secure the points as the game was coming to a close. Neil Taylor who down injured after he and the Pebsham captain both went up for the ball. Pugh picked up the loose ball and raced for goal as the referee allowed play to continue. Pugh's shot went just wide of the post with only the keeper to beat.

Jamie Drummond had the last chance of the game but the keeper made a good save to keep it to just the single goal.

The game was very slow paced, and very stop start with the ball going out of play a lot. Dynamos failed to keep hold of the ball enough and its basic mistakes that were the main problem for them in this game. Luckily Eastbourne can be happy with the three points, if not the performance.
