Eastbourne Dynamos kicked off their new season away to Eastbourne Galaxy who came up from Division 4.
Manager Gary Taylor had nearly an entire squad to pick from this week, and chose to give debut to some new signings. Jason Robinson took the Captains armband for his first game, while Alan Doyle and Rossi Williams also made the starting line-up.
Both teams got stuck in from the first whistle, but it was the hosts who enjoyed more of the possession and pushed Dynamos back into their own half. Dynamos defended well for the most part and managed to prevent Galaxy from really testing Martin Bell in the Dynamos goal.
Galaxy were always a threat from set pieces because of their clear height advantage, but it was the visitors who took the lead. The Ball was flicked on into the area, and with Neil Taylor waiting for the ball to come down, he was clumsily bundled over and the Referee pointed to the spot after a long look at it.
Taylor picked himself up and slotted away the penalty nicely to give Dynamos the lead. Galaxy continued to enjoy most of the possession, but the goal gave the visitors a bit more confidence going forward, but about 10 minutes later the two sides were level.
Dynamos failed to clear the ball and eventually it was moved well across the edge of the Dynamos area before the Galaxy player's shot from the edge of the area flew across the goal and into the far corner for a very good finish.
Dayle Courtier and Alan Doyle were becoming a thorn in the Galaxy side with some really meaty challenges and were possibly lucky not to pick up a yellow card, but helped in breaking up the home side's play.
Dynamos then lost Glenn Taylor who picked up a knock on his knee, he was replaced by Alex Speirs and the team was reshuffled a little.
The Claret and Blues were back in front with about 15 minutes of the half left. Dynamos first attempt's seemed to have been dealt with, but Neil Taylor pounced on a loose ball and feed Dean Pugh on the left, who managed to pull the ball back for Stephen Fletcher to stab the ball into the back of the net.
Things were level once again just before the break, after Dynamos conceded a free kick on the left. The ball was floated in towards the back post and was nodded down across goal, Dynamos took too long to clear the ball and the Galaxy striker managed to get his foot in to poke the ball past everyone and into the net.
The second half saw the visitors enjoy more of the possession, and most of it in the Galaxy half. Dynamos failed to really test the keeper, but went close on a number of occasions.
Alex Speirs had an effort go just wide from the edge of the area, while Stephen Fletcher managed to get free from the defence only to turn into the keeper who smothered the ball.
Martin Bell was called into action when a shot from outside the area bounced awkwardly in front of him and could only get his body behind it, but was quick enough to get a leg to the ball with a great save when the Galaxy player was first to the loose ball.
Dynamos continued to search for a winner right until the end, and a good cross from the left was nearly finished off brilliantly by Lewis Colegate, but it was slightly too high for him and he headed the ball just wide of the post.
Eastbourne will be pleased to open with a draw, although will feel they should have done more with their possession in the second half and pushed on to take all three points. Dynamos were well organized and battled all over the pitch and their squad has strength in depth. Galaxy will be one of the better teams Dynamos play all season.
