Match Report

Eastbourne Dynamos returned to the Sussex County Cup after not entering for the last 2 years. A long trip to Crawley for their first round tie against new opposition in Work Park Rangers.

A delayed kick off because of a late referee, no corner flags and Work Park taking forever to put the nets up and to eventually emerge from the changing rooms meant that the game eventually kicked off at about 3pm.

Dynamos wasted no time in taking out their frustration and camped in the Work Park end for most of the first half. Within 15 minutes, Dynamos were 3-0 up.

The first goal came from down the left, Neil Taylor crossing from the left for Stephen Fletcher to calmly put the Greens ahead. Alan Doyle scored the second after a scramble in the box when Rangers failed to clear Dean Pugh's cross. Doyle reacted quickest to fire past the keeper.

Fletcher then got his second when Pugh picked him out from the left and Fletcher curled in the ball from the edge of the area.

Dynamos were looking comfortable and on a massive pitch, used the wings and the space well. The visitors had numerous chances and eventually scored a fourth when Neil Taylor beat the offside trap and had all the time in the world to slotted the ball past the keeper and into the net.

Simon Burke had to receive treatment after picking up a knock making a challenge, and was soon replaced by Ben Curwood.

The Eastbourne defence looked solid and cancelled out any sign of danger, keeping Martin Bell well protected in the Dynamos goal.

Lewis Colegate was running rampant down the right and put his name on the scoresheet after collecting a pass down the right and sliding the ball under the keeper from and angle to make it 5-0 before the break.

The second half saw a brief flicker of Rangers playing a part in the game, with both teams exchanging possession until Pugh managed to see off his marker before crossing for Doyle to claim his second of the game.

Doyle was then celebrating his hat-trick when Pugh beat the defender and rounded the keeper before squaring for Doyle to convert for Dynamos seventh.

Pugh was next to be celebrating as Colegate attacked down the right before crossing for Pugh to head into the net.

Eastbourne could and should have been in double figures by this point, with Fletcher, Taylor and Colegate all missing good opportunities to add to this massive scoreline.

Worth Park had their only chance of scoring wasted when a rare chance opened up, only for the striker to loop the ball over the bar. Other than a couple of corners towards the end of the game, keeper Martin Bell was a spectator with him not even having to make a save.

Richard Payne completed the scoring for Eastbourne when Pugh's initial shot was saved by the keeper, but Payne was on hand to convert the rebound through a wall of bodies and into the net.

Eastbourne secured their biggest ever win, and emphatically book their place in the second round of the Sussex Cup, where they will face local rivals, The Hurst, in the next round who they also face next week in the Eastbourne Cup.

Dynamos played some neat football on a lovely pitch and made sure they got the job done. The confidence should now be sky high going into next weeks game.
