Match Report

Eastbourne Dynamos visited Hurst for the second time in the cup this season. Manager Gary Taylor made a couple of changes from last week's team, with Shaun Peters making his first appearance of the season.

Eastbourne started off brightly, with their first chance coming in the opening few minutes, the ball came wide to Dayle Courtier whose shot was well saved by the keeper.

On 15 minutes Dynamos took the lead. The Hurst defence were caught napping and following a long throw into the box, Stephen Fletcher got to the ball first to nod past the keeper.

Hurst enjoyed a bit more possession than Dynamos should be happy with, but their pressure was not converted into chances.

Lewis Colegate should have doubled Dynamos lead when he managed to beat the offside trap but his wicked curling shot didn't dip enough, hitting the bar before Hurst managed to clear their lines.

Hurst did force two good saves from keeper Martin Bell, who had a brilliant game the last time these two sides met. The Hurst striker's volley from outside the area looked to be creeping inside the post, but Bell saved well diving to his right.

Hurst seemed to be lacking their cutting edge from previous meetings, and didn't seem as much of a threat in the air and from set pieces.

The Dynamos defence looked settled and the midfield were playing some neat football and breaking up play when needed.

Eastbourne made their managers half time team talk all the better when they scored a few minutes before the break. Colegate got away again down the right, the angle was a bit tight for him and he cut back for Alex Speirs, but he didn't get enough on the ball but Neil Taylor was waiting around the back to sweep home for one of his easiest goals of the season.

Hurst made a couple of changes and came out looking to get straight back in the game. They pushed forward and carved out a few more chances. Bell was again called into action but Hurst were guilty of wasting their best chances.

Dynamos were also guilty of wasting good chances to put the game to bed. Ben Curwood found himself in the Hurst area, but the keeper smothered the ball before Curwood could get his shot away.

Fletcher then twice raced away and beat the offside trap, his first attempt saw him sit the keeper on his backside, but allowed the defence to get back and he was eventually crowded out. His second chance he tried to play in Colegate, but he had strayed into an offside position.

Hurst's best chance saw the ball cut back across the Dynamos goal, but the shot was too close to Bell who managed to get down well.

Eastbourne then had a chance to secure the victory when they were awarded a penalty for handball, which was very harsh on the Hurst player who seemed to have his arms down by his side.

Taylor stepped up but couldn't make it three penalties in three games when the keeper saved well, but from the resulting corner, Alan Doyle rose highest to get his head on the ball, the hit the bar before coming down behind the line.

The visitors were then awarded a second penalty when Damien Mills was brought down inside the area. Even though the player got the ball, he seemed to go through Mills to get the ball.

Taylor confidently stepped up to put his last miss behind him and this time made no mistake, although as Dynamos celebrated, the Linesman flagged for encroachment. Then instead of the referee ordering Taylor to retake the penalty, he awarded Hurst a free kick, much to the amusement of the Hurst players and the dismay of Eastbourne's.

With only around 5 minutes remaining, neither team managed to force any saves out of either keeper. Dynamos now in a comfortable position managed to see out the game and secure a clean sheet.

A good performance for Dynamos ensured that they secured a second victory over Hurst this season, and advanced to the third round of the County Cup. Confidence in the team at the moment is sky high, and unlike previous seasons, Dynamos can afford to make changes when players are unavailable and still pull out good performance and get a good result. Lets hope this continues!
