Old Town Rec proved its worth for the second week running when most of the fixtures had succumbed to the weather, Dynamos home pitch was deemed playable.
Battle Rangers where the visitors this week, while Dynamos manager Gary Taylor was forced into two changes from last week's team.
It took both teams a while to get going, with the extended winter break still having an effect. Battle settled quicker and enjoyed more of the ball, while the home side looked half a game behind.
Battle could have had an early penalty when the striker tried going round keeper Martin Bell, his touch saw the ball go out for a goal kick but hit the deck under a challenge from the Eastbourne keeper. The referee awarded a corner amid strong protests from the visitors for a penalty.
Richard Payne then escaped with a yellow card following a cynical challenge on the Rangers winger who attempted to get behind the Eastbourne defence. Luckily for Payne he wasn't the last defender with Ben Curwood getting back in time.
Dean Pugh then hit the bar from just inside the area following a corner, and seemed to be the start of a better period for Eastbourne.
Neil Taylor was picked out by Stephen Fletcher following good work from Lewis Colegate. Taylor got past the defender but saw his shot go just wide.
Fletcher then went racing through on goal himself, knocking the ball through the keepers legs, who then clattered into Fletcher. The ball was cleared off the line by the defender, but the referee awarded a penalty. Neil Taylor stepped up to convert the penalty to give Dynamos the lead.
Eastbourne seemed to find some confidence from this. Shaun Peters continued to win the headers from the back, while Alan Doyle and Dayle Courtier got through lots of work in the middle, despite being outnumbered by Rangers 5 man midfield.
It wasn't long before Eastbourne had doubled their lead. Curwood found Taylor who squared nicely into Doyle's pass who didn't need asking twice as he dispatched the ball away past the keeper.
For the second week running Dynamos had gone into the break leading, and for the second week running the manager wasn't happy with what he was watching, although this week it didn't seem to have an effect as Battle started the second half with a new found determination to get back into the game.
Dynamos were forced to defend with everything and try and catch them on the break. Rangers had a number of chances, forcing Bell into one particularly good save after the Battle player shot from outside the area. But for all Battle's attempts on goal, most of them were off target. Battle eventually got their goal but it didn't come in a way they probably deserved. Dynamos were defending and as the Battle midfield ran across to pick up a pass, Curwood was following his man but tripped on the uneven surface, taking with him the Battle Player for which the referee pointed to the spot. It was a cruel blow for the Dynamos left back who hadn't put a foot wrong all game.
The Battle midfield sent keeper Bell the wrong way to get his side back into the game. The momentum was with Rangers and the home side were in danger of seeing their half time advantage slip away.
The goal was a kick up the backside for the Blues, and were soon carving out their own chances again. Darren Vine raced through following a brilliant pass from Fletcher, but his effort was parried wide by the keeper.
Eastbourne then restored their two-goal lead, Pugh's initial cross was headed away, Taylor picked up the loose ball about 30-yards out and controlled well before volleying goalwards. His amazing effort dipped over the keeper hitting the bar before landing over the line.
Fletcher than was unlucky not get on the score sheet when he charged down the keepers clearance from a back pass, the keeper managed to get to the loose ball before Fletcher and clawed it away, sending him wide. Fletcher then tried to square the ball but defenders had now managed to get back and cleared the ball.
Eastbourne still hadn't hit top gear, and had a couple of corners from which nothing materialised. Then another corner from Pugh picked out Doyle's angled run, his deft touch looped the ball over the keeper and into the net for Dynamos fourth.
Battle hadn't given up and made a couple of substitutions which gave then a new threat upfront. The reduced Dynamos lead with 10 minutes to go, their midfielder wasn't picked up at a corner, and met the ball at the back post and headed through a crowd of players to score his sides second.
Dynamos supporters were left biting their nails when Rangers scored a third with 2 minutes remaining on the clock. Another poor defensive display from a corner when Dynamos failed to get to the ball first and the Rangers player header couldn't be kept out by the defender on the line and Battle were scrambling to get the game going again as they looked for an equaliser.
Both teams gave away possession in the last few minutes but neither managed to create any chances and the referee called time on a very entertaining game for the neutral. Eastbourne now go above their visitors and into third in the table from fifth. Dynamos have games in hand on everybody in the league but need to produce better performances than this if they are to take advantage of this.
