Match Report

Eastbourne Dynamos returned to league action this week, the second home game of 3 as Dynamos look to consolidate their position in mid table. Cinque Ports were the visitors this week, both teams smarting from 7-2 defeats the previous week.

Manager Dave Moran made changes from his team last week. With Damien Mills injured, Ben Curwood switched to right back and Sam Fry came in at left back, Martin Bell in goal. Joe Lavender and Dean Pugh kept their places on the wing, with Sean Corson and Nick Webb making up the centre of midfield. Neil Taylor and Mark Likeman started the game upfront. Lewis Colegate, Alex Speirs and Moran made up the subs.

Dynamos started well and were soon causing their visitors problems. Dynamos looked solid in defence which was a good platform to attack from and get players forward. A few crunching challenges from Corson would latter take their toll, but for now meant that Dynamos had to upper hand in midfield.

Likeman should have put his side ahead when Unsworth burst forward from defence after winning the ball, his pass set Likeman through whose shot beat the keeper, but was just wide of the post.

A succession of corners by Dynamos just needed to find someone on the end of it, the final one saw Unsworth meet one at the near post to head through the defence and just inside the far post.

Dynamos continued to look the most dangerous, but Port's we're beginning to get more into the game and were starting to create their own chances. They missed a chance when they managed to break down the right, but cross eluded the two players in the box and Eastbourne managed to clear.

The visitors then managed to draw level with a well taken volley. Dynamos were appealing for a free kick when the Cinque Ports defender won a header on the half way line while climbing all over Taylor. Ports lofted the ball into the area and Curwood managed to head clear, although first to the ball was the Ports midfield who met it on the volley from outside the area, the ball flew over Bell and dipped just under the bar.

Bell managed to make a couple of saves, but it wasn't long before the visitors had turned it around. Ports managed to attack straight through the middle of the field and their striker raced through ahead of the Eastbourne defence and slotted past Bell who was left exposed.

Dynamos were forced to make an early change with Corson unable to continue, Speirs entered the fray.

The second half saw Dynamos improve, another change at half time saw Colegate replace the injured Lavender. With Dynamos desperate to get an equaliser, Ports were able to attack Dynamos as they started to open up.

Pugh wasted a great chance after beating two defenders and cutting across the area, but with players waiting for a pass, Pugh opted to shoot and sliced high and wide.

The visitors nearly extended their lead, Fry found himself outnumbered on the edge of the area, and the Number nine's half volley had Bell scrambling back, but the ball smacked the cross bar before going out for a goal kick.

Pugh was then beating the full back again, his cut back to Likeman was cut out by the defender and Ports managed to clear.

Dynamos were then awarded a free kick level with the area. Colegate swung the ball in and Taylor rose unchallenged to head goal wards, the keeper looked to be letting the ball go as he seemed to think it was going out of play, but the ball sneaked inside the post to draw Dynamos level.

Both teams pushed forward, both needing the 3 points to help their league position. The game swung again, this time in Dynamos favour. Bells long kick forward was challenged by Taylor and the defender, the ball made its way through to Likeman who volleyed on the turn from all of 25 yards. The ball sailed over the keeper and into the net.

The home side were claiming for another goal after a quick break lead to Colegate crossing for Likeman to head goal wards, as the ball bounced on the line, the keeper scrambled back to scoop it away, with Dynamos claiming it had crossed the line, the Ref was too far away to call it and was never going to get any help from his linesman who wasn't up with play either.

With the game was far from over, Ports pushed forward and again saw an effort come back off the bar. Bell was also called into action and managed to parry wide, but Dynamos held firm and managed to see out the final minutes and hang onto the 3 points.

Not the best performance from Eastbourne, but it's the result that matters. Dynamos played well in patches, but didn't really hold onto the ball well enough. Not many home games left for Dynamos, and one of those is next week.
