Eastbourne Dynamos had a trip to Burwash in nasty weather that threatened the likelihood of this game taking place right up until the referee arrived at the ground. Dynamos stuck to roughly the same team that played so well in their last game against the Red Lion, with Dayle Courtier replacing Neil Taylor. The first half saw Dynamos defend their goal for much of the game while playing up hill and against the wind. Dynamos struggled in the early stages to get to grips with the conditions and Burwash threatened to take the lead early on but went wide. A few minutes later, Burwash did take the lead when their player rounded Martin Bell in the Dynamos goal after he miss timed a through ball. This seemed to be the wake up call Eastbourne needed and they defended against the elements brilliantly. Dynamos battled out the rest of the half bravely and also created a few chances themselves to equalise. Lloyd Taylor and Stephen Fletcher both went close for Dynamos but the score remained 1-0 to Burwash at half time. The second half Eastbourne looked to get back into the game but the Burwash defence was proving tough to break down. Eastbourne looked dangerous when attacking, but looked more like scoring from the numerous corners they had. Midway through the second half, Dynamos managed to equalise. Good work down the right ended with the ball loose in the box. Dayle Courtier managed to beat the defender and the onrushing keeper to the ball and poke it through to Dean Pugh who was waiting to score into an empty net for his first goal of the season. Eastbourne then pushed on looking to take the lead but it was Burwash who scored next when Eastbourne gave away the ball in their own half and were punished by the Burwash midfielder who scored with a brilliant strike from outside the area as the ball sailed past Martin Bell who was at full stretch and didn't get anywhere near the ball. Dynamos then sent a series of shot's towards the Burwash goal, but they failed to test the keeper. Dean Pugh came close to getting a second when his cross from the left dipped over the keeper before grazing the crossbar. Dynamos didn't give up and tried to use the slope of the pitch to their advantage. Eastbourne had a succession of corners where Burwash managed to scramble the ball away as the visitors pushed forward late on. Eastbourne managed to equalise for the second time when Jeff Ferguson picked up another corner outside the area, and his cross come shot was fired towards goal. Steven Fletcher stretch to get his head on the end of it but couldn't get near it, and neither could the Burwash keeper as the ball landed in the back of the net. Dynamos then wanted to avoid conceding again and tried to keep the ball as far away from their goal as possible. Eastbourne won a corner with a minute to go and set everyone forward. With the ball sent into the area, a goalmouth scramble followed and the ball bounced around the box before James Dale's shot managed to squeeze past everyone and finished in the back of the net to give Eastbourne the lead for the first time in the game. A minute later the whistle went and Eastbourne Dynamos had won their first ever League game. They must now build on this victory, continue their good form and use their games in hand to get themselves off the bottom of the table and out of the relegation zone. |
