Eastbourne Dynamos looked to continue last week's good performance when Hastings Rangers visited Old Town Rec. Manager Gary Taylor was able to field the same team that played so well last week against Mayfield. Hastings had the better start as both teams struggled to cope with the wind early on. Dynamos looked dangerous on the counter attack, but never really tested the Hastings keeper. Eastbourne went behind after their corner failed to clear the first defender, and the visitors broke down the left and their striker blasted the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the goal. Dynamos did not give up and continued to battle well. The game did become a little scrappy and stop start as Hastings continued to argue with the referee throughout the game. Neil Taylor could have got Dynamos back in the game when he collected Mark Likeman brilliant pass right through the middle of the pitch, but his chip over the keeper was helped wide by the wind. Taylor made amends a few minutes later when he set up the equaliser. A neat bit of skip helped him avoid the challenge of two defenders before his cross was met by Jeff Ferguson, who headed powerfully past the keeper. Taylor then went down injured after a nasty tackle from the Hastings defender, and Dynamos had to play with only 10 men while Taylor received treatment. During that time Dynamos could have taken the lead. Likeman floated in a free kick over the defence to Dean Pugh, his square pass was knocked onto the bar by Lloyd Taylor from six yards, Christian Courtier then sent the rebound over the bar from outside the area. The second half started much like the first, Dynamos defending well and Martin Bell was rarely troubled in the Eastbourne goal. Neil Taylor sent a header wide at the back post after a cross from the right was flicked on by Courtier. Taylor was soon on the score sheet after turning his defender and sending his shot low to the left to give Dynamos the lead. The goal turned out to be Taylor's last action of the game as his injury picked up in the first half forced him to be substituted by Stephen Fletcher. Before Taylor could be replaced though, the Hastings captain was given his marching orders after collecting a second yellow for something he said to the Assistant Referee. Lloyd Taylor then added to score line when his high cross dipped just over the keeper and into the back of the net. Although Dynamos now had a two goal lead, the game was far from won, although the chances of a Hastings fight back decreased when their Number 7 was given a straight red for something he said to the referee while the ball was the other side of the pitch. Darren Vine then had a chance to put the game beyond any doubt when Fletcher pulled the ball back after a good run, but the keeper saved Vine's shot. Substitute Dave Moran picked up another pass from Fletcher towards the end of the game, but his shot was straight at the keeper. Eastbourne had managed to secure second League win of the season, their first at home, and now move above Wittersham in Division 3. Dynamos are now third from bottom, and still have a very good chance of avoiding relegation in their first ever season. |
